Change is growth, but with change, we still have to determine the direction.
We hear so much about embracing change. Change is necessary. Change is inevitable. Change means we’re growing. Change is moving from one direction to the next…
But I’ve been thinking about how change, by itself, doesn’t necessarily mean we’re moving toward where we’re supposed to be.
Sometimes we change to survive.
We change to adjust ourselves into situations. We change because someone else needs us to be different. We change our expectations so we can tolerate something longer. We change pieces of ourselves because staying the same has become uncomfortable for everyone around us.
And yes, that technically is change… But did we align?
There’s a difference between changing because you’re afraid of what will happen if we don’t and changing because something inside of you finally recognizes that where you are no longer matches who you are… alignment!
Changing to align feels different… is different.
It doesn’t always feel comfortable. Alignment can be scary and feel uneasy just thinking abut it.
Sometimes you know exactly what you’re leaving behind while having absolutely no idea what’s waiting for you on the other side…
Trust and faith for the unknown.
That’s where fearful change can keep us stuck.
Not necessarily because we want what we currently have, but because at least we know what we currently have. We know how to work with what’s in front of us even if we know it doesn’t spark our soul.
There is a strange comfort in familiarity, even when it no longer feels good.
Stepping forward asks us to exchange something known for something we can’t completely see yet.
And maybe that’s why I’ve started looking at change differently.
I don’t want to change simply for the sake of becoming something new.
I want the changes I make to bring me closer to myself… my authentic self!
Closer to my purpose… to peace within.
Sometimes change is recognizing everything you’ve become just to survive and deciding what you no longer need to carry forward.
There are versions of ourselves that needs Change to heal, grow and align.
A butterfly doesn’t enter their cocoon already knowing what its wings will look like. It enters understanding the process that the form it once knew can no longer remain the same. It’s time for change…
Change can be scary because there are no guarantees waiting on the other side.
But staying doesn’t come with guarantees either.
So maybe the question isn’t whether I’m afraid to change. Maybe the question is:
Am I willing to remain somewhere I’ve already outgrown simply because I can see it clearly?
I think I’m learning that I would rather walk toward alignment without seeing the entire road than remain somewhere familiar that requires me to keep walking away from myself.
Not changing to escape but changing to align.
And somehow, that feels less like becoming someone new…and more like coming home to who I’ve been all along.
